Ordering DVDs from Rocketindie

I have my DVD-R master and I'm ready to go. Now what?

You're almost there. You need to contact Ria McVeigh at Breakthrough Distribution on ria@breakd.com or 310.452.0816. Tell her you're a Rocketindie client and you will immediately get preferential pricing. (see one of the later questions for details on this)

Who is Breakthrough?

Breakthrough Distribution is our DVD production partner.

They are a complete CD/DVD manufacturer with very reasonable prices. They can custom manufacture packaging of virtually any kind - vary the die, vary the paper, vary the finish - Eco Friendly paper Stocks, Recycled & Fiberboard, High End Deluxe Printing Effects, Custom Die Cuts.

After you have spent so much time and effort making your movie - why put it into a completely standard black plastic amaray case like every other indie-film when there are other cool options within reach.

As stated before although we have negotiated a very well priced Starter package - you can ask Breakthrough for anything you want (but of course the cooler it is - the more it will cost) - if there is something customised or specialised that Breakthrough is not able to make - by all means check out Megalodon - they are not the cheapest but they use some unique materials.

What are the different package options?

Breakthrough can do virtually anything you want - but to keep things simple we have pre-agreed a single starter package

The package price includes shipping costs to a our west coast warehouse - and of course it includes all discs in bubble mailers.

  1. STARTER PACKAGE

1000 Full color offset printed discs on DVD-5, Black amaray case - only $1500 all inclusive
  2. The coolest part is that ANYTHING is possible - you want to add a slip case with an emboss - that's fine. You want to do a digipak with a diecut - no problem. There are of course increases in fees. The price above is the basic price - it will change if you modify anything.

Note that ALL the discs are sent by Breakthrough to the warehouse - if you want some of the discs to be sent to you directly (e.g. for promotional purposes) you have to request that through your client adminstration interface by logging in and making a special order.

What if I want to use a different supplier?

That's fine. You just need to make sure that the discs are ready for shipping and clearly identifiable. This means they must be in mailable envelopes (a custom fitted cardstock mailer works best - covered with clear polyfilm for protection) and the envelopes must be tagged with your product code.

If your DVD manufacturer cannot do this for you (most can) then you will have to pay a fee for the items to be individually packed by the warehouse - the fee is $600 per 1000 discs or less for envelopes and insertions and $95 per 1000 discs or less for sticker printing and adhesion. Needless to say it is advisable to ensure that your DVDs are pre-packed by your DVD manufacturer since it will certainly be cheaper.

I don't have a DVD-R master and I don't know how to make one. Can you help me?

Rocketindie will not author the DVDs for you. But there are plenty of small companies that will do this for a fee. We are negotiating a few partnerships - stay tuned for an update.

Why can't I just send you a bunch of DVD-Rs?

We do not believe that DVD-Rs (recordable DVDs) are a legitimate retail product. It is possible to make a DVD-R look sort of like a retail product - by putting a nice label on it and sticking it inside a plastic box (like companies like CustomFlix do and try to convince you is cool because it saves you money) but at the end of the day it is still just a recordable DVD.

DVD-Rs have their place - we use them regularly for early screeners for the films we make ourselves but we do not accept them for Rocketindie.
